So its been a big week in Meribel. The two BASI courses have had their Level 1 Examinations and the Performance group has seen some intense action in all aspects of the sport with skiing all over the largest ski area in the world. Due to the BASI qualification there hasn’t been any socials this week but we are planning to have a full social program next week.

The BASI groups have had a very intense week with the Level 1 Examinations. The groups looked at all parts of the technique for beginner skiers and how to teach each of these sessions. The participants then practised teaching these in two sessions each. Overall the course went well with most people passing but there were a number of Basecampers who needed to focus a little more on their skiing technique and these people will re-sit this part in a couple of weeks.

The Performance group has had a massive week with skiing in every environment the 3 Valleys has to offer from big couloirs to pristine pistes and tree runs to sun drenched snowparks. Added to this they have been engaging in some avalanche training with instructor Greg teaching them how to locate a transceiver under the snow and then use a probe correctly to locate it.

Next week shows a massive promise with a huge snowfall still ongoing. The BASI groups will be having a little bit of a shakedown following the Level 1 Assessments and will be getting some off-piste action along with working towards the BASI 2. The perforance groups will be heading out deep into the new powder snow to enjoy some of the epic vistas the 3 Valleys have to offer. Socials wise we have a massive week in store with a 90’s night out this eve followed by Ice Hockey on Tuesday (Meribel vs Chambery), Sledging in Courchevel on Thursday and a trip to La Plagne on Sunday. WOW.
