Course Overview

Go all the way with BASS & Basecamp. The most comprehensive and successful training for BASI Level 3 & Level 4 available.

Receive high end Level 3 training, whilst working with top Swiss and Italian ski schools under the guidance and supervision of some of BASI's best trainers, giving all instructors the best chance of gaining their Level 3 certification. BASS have proven results and very high pass rate at Level 3 and Level 4 ISTD.

BASS understand that the core training for passing the BASI Level 3 ISIA training is to concentrate on the Technical and Teaching courses. We run a bespoke program that enables students to achieve 200 hours, and attend the 2nd discipline, Mountain Safety and coaching course without losing valuable tech and teach training hours.

By running a bespoke course BASS meet the needs of the individual students and the different levels of development that are inevitable.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Level 2 BASI (or equivalent)
  • Practical experience and work started towards your 200 hours of teaching experience as a ski instructor is also advantageous

INCLUDES

ON-SNOW

  • 12 hours a week of on snow training and video feedback for 10 weeks of the course
  • Three hours teaching training each week for 10 weeks
  • Three to six weeks of shadowing the BASS team
  • Two hours each morning of structured practice on points highlighted by your trainer
  • French lessons each week
  • 4 weeks work organised during peak weeks with Swiss or Italian Ski Schools
  • 200 hours sign off by your BASS instructor
  • Mid-season assessment of level with action plans of how to move forward


CATERED PACKAGE

  • 19 weeks (full season) of catered accommodation in Meribel
  • Close to the pistes
  • Breakfast each morning, afternoon tea and dinner 6 nights a week - all cooked in the comfort of your own home by an experienced chalet host
  • One twin share room and two triple rooms in a comfortable apartment with a large living room, TV, dining area and balcony with views to the slopes
  • Full season 3 Valleys Lift Pass

COURSE SYLLABUS

Over the duration of the course you can expect to cover the following:

Safety:

  • Risks and hazards - Group management and emergency procedures


Technical:

  • Understanding the fundamental elements
  • Understanding and performing the Central theme
  • Linking the CT to FE's
  • Personal performance in Piste long and Piste short
  • Linking the FE's to Piste performance
  • Steeps, bumps and variables level 3 & 4 standards
  • The link between FE's, CT and the Strands
  • Race and off piste orientation
  • Personal performance strategy development


Teaching:

  • Deliver teaching sessions to your peers
  • Receive feedback and action plan for each teaching session
  • Observer teaching sessions
  • Participate in the review of teaching sessions
  • Class management at higher levels
  • Understanding the teaching tools
  • Understanding and using the performance threads
  • Understanding and using the TIED model
  • Working with outcomes to develop higher level performance


Psychology:

  • Motivating athletes to success.Identifying and achieving personal goals
  • Sustaining performance and peeking for exams or competition

BASI Level 3 ISIA

Modules required for Level 3 Qualification:

  • 200 Hrs Teaching Experience
  • Alpine Level 3 ISIA Teaching Course (5 days)
  • Alpine Level 3 ISIA Technical Course (5 days)
  • Second Discipline Level 1 Course (5 days)
  • Level 3 Mountain Safety Course (6 days)

  • BASI Coaching Course (5 days)

  • This course will prepare you to be able to take these modules, and will cover assessment of some of these areas with your instructors or BASI external examiners.

    Q: Can I join BASI if I have a qualification from another organisation?

    A: Yes, you can join as an Associate Member of BASI in the normal way and book onto BASI courses. If you want BASI to recognise your existing snowsport instructor qualifications and provide exemption to a BASI course you will have to apply through the Exemption Process. There is an Exemption Processing fee that applies to applicants.

    Q: How do I apply for a BASI course exemption?

    BASI will only consider Course Exemption Applications if applicants meet the following criteria:

    1. You have a valid qualification from an ISIA registered teaching system obtained within the last five years.

    Course Exemption Procedure:

    Applicants can call the BASI Office to discuss their exemption, email or post documentation.

    1. Prepare an Exemption Dossier and include as much relevant support information as possible including: copies of official documentation/certificates, logbooks, teaching hours, references.
    2. Prepare a cover letter with subject title “BASI Course Exemption Application” and include your full details (name, address, date of birth, email and phone number). Please state if you are currently a BASI Member and what course (s) exemptions you are applying for.
    3. Send your cover letter and Exemption Dossier to BASI, Morlich House, 17 The Square, Grantown on Spey, PH26 3HG. (Payment will be taken at the end of the process).
    4. On receipt of all evidence the exemption will be considered. This can take between 2 - 20 working days depending on the complexity of the exemption application.
    5. The Applicant will be contacted by the BASI office regarding the outcome. Payment will be taken and the exemption note will be added to BASI records. 

    Having the support of a training provider really helps when getting everything sorted for BASI Level 3 ISIA. By receiving consistent high-end training throughout the season from an experienced BASI ski school, you give yourself the best chance of gaining your Level 3 certification, especially the technical and teaching modules. BASS have proven results and very high pass rate at Level 3 and Level 4 ISTD.

    Basecamp and BASS have very strong industry links with many leading ski schools and can help arrange paid employment during peak weeks of the course. Please note that being accepted onto jobs will depend on you being deemed employable by the employers themselves who are third party companies and not obliged to employ anybody they do not feel suitable. Working for third-parties cannot be guaranteed and should there be no work available during any of those weeks, alternative work shadowing opportunities will be provided and you will still have your accommodation in Meribel so you can stay and train.
