Val d'Isere Week 11

Val 2010 Week 11.jpg

The final week of exams involved honing those short and carving turns so that they were perfected by the end of the week. The near?? perfect conditions made the skiing a joy and some real improvements were made on all aspects of skiing. Classes were held by all candidates and all proved their worth in front of a group of beginner skiers.

As the Friday approached, nerves began to run high as many had a lot riding on the result. Fortunately most passed the course with flying colours. Commiserations to those who didn’t make it this time round.
To finish the course off in style, we had a final evening meal with instructors and course members letting their hair down as the pressure was finally off. At the end of the meal a list of awards was presented to all Basecamp members as a light hearted reflection of their 11 weeks in Val d’Isere.

On the last weekend of the course we had a trip to Meribel in the three valleys resort. The weather was perfect and it was a joy to ski in one of the biggest ski resorts in the world. The experience of ripping up some of the motorways around the area will not soon be forgotten, although it does make you appreciate Val more! Will and Alex managed to pull off back flips on the air bag in Courchevel, unfortunately Andy wasn’t so lucky and ended up in a neck brace for 2 weeks!!
Others in the group went ski touring in the Tarentaise district for the day. The experience and sights there were amazing, not least for Cheyenne who managed survive a cliff fall without a mark on her!

So that brings us to the end of our time in Val. I think you’ll agree it’s been a fantastic experience for all involved.

From my point of view, I’d like to thank you all for making it such a memorable season and a lot of fun. I’ve been lucky to look after such an enthusiastic and friendly bunch of people!

Who knows, maybe I’ll see you next season?!
