After 15 seasons in Meribel, we really feel like we have found our winter home. It is one of the best places in the world to ski with a variety huge of terrain for all levels. It is the ultimate place to learn to be a BASI qualified instructor or take a performance course and improve your riding.

If you’re doing a whole season there is no better place to base yourself than in Meribel Center where you have easy access to the slopes and the town. All our accommodation is located so we can make the most of the mountains and the town all of which equals more fun.

To get an idea of what it’s like to do a season in Meribel we have put together a seasons worth of video diaries. We can almost taste the snow!

Basecamp in Meribel Week 1 & 2 – Getting to know you and the mountain

The first few weeks start with some social and group skis before the training gets underway! The training for Level 1 BASI Ski Instructor gets underway with a striping back of technique while those on the performance course will get to know the mountain and understand how to improve their style. The first two weeks can be tough and the learning curve is steep but everyone is a better at skiing at the end of it!

Basecamp in Meribel Week 3 – BASI Level 1 Assessment & Avalanche Awareness

Week 3 is assessment time for those on the BASI 1 course. In the build-up to it our instructors work hard to make sure all the kinks in your technique is ironed out and you’re exam ready! The performance course Basecampers will work on a variety of disciplines from park to race training and when the conditions allow there is some off piste sessions too, but not before attending an avalanche awareness session.

Basecamp in Meribel Week 4 – First week of Level 2

Week 4 is when the BASI student will start working toward their level 2 and improving their own ability. As the pressure of Level 1 exams are off it is also time for the team to let off some steam with a few social gatherings and activities.

Basecamp in Meribel Week 5 – Personal Development

At the half way point, both groups are really working hard on their skiing and the BASI Instructor group are also focusing on the skill they need to become instructors.

Basecamp in Meribel Week 6 – Shadowing and Piste Skiing

On week 6 our performance courses start to focus on-piste skiing which includes tackling moguls.  Those on the BASI Level 2 course get their first taste of instructing as they shadow instructors and help out with ski schools during half term week.

Basecamp in Meribel Week 7 – Piste, parks and powder

Week 7 see everyone being pushed hard working on all aspects of their skiing and instructing. As you can see in the video the courses are adaptable and full use is made of the conditions giving everyone the chance to develop their skills on a variety of terrain.

Basecamp in Mereibl Week 8

The intensity of the course ramps up for BASI instructors as the level 2 assessments start to approach. The week also involves essential first aid training!

Basecamp in Mereibl Week 9 – BBQ’s and assesments

By week 8 everyone’s skiing is at a high standard and the confidence to tackle anything the mountain throws up is at its peak. As the spring approaches the temperature rises and we start to BBQ and spend more time on the terraces of Meribel

The course is starting to wind down but it’s not the time to relax as the Level 2 instructors have their final exams and only then can the celebrations start!
