Established in 2002, Basecamp is the leading provider of ski and snowboard instructor courses worldwide.
As the first organisation to offer BASI ski and snowboard courses qualifications in France, we’ve been carving fresh tracks with our cutting edge ski and snowboard courses for everyone else to follow for the past 10 years.
Today Basecamp is at the centre of a global network of ski and snowboard instructors. We only operate in the world's leading resorts and are proud to work alongside each resort's most experienced and highly regarded ski and snowboard instructors.
Skiing and Snowboarding is what we do and the mountain lifestyle is what we live for.
Alongside our sister company, Ticket To Ride , which as the boardsport-specific provider of instructor courses runs our snowboard and surf courses.
Each member of our team has years of skiing and snowboarding experience, including multiple winter seasons. Throwing ourselves down mountains is what we do and the mountain lifestyle is what we live for.
Check our website for further information on all the latest Basecamp courses, watch our videos, read our blogs and speak to one of our expert course advisors if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you out here.
UK Head Office - Exeter
Director - Linley Lewis
Linley has had a passion for boardsports for as long as he can remember; he hit the Austrian slopes as a young child, and comes from a family line of ski instructors. He's been snowboarding since he was 14 and loves pushing himself to the maximum in all areas whether it's on the piste, in fresh powder, or in the park.
From the UK he handles the operational planning and logistics, he'll be the guy who'll handle the payments but is also a great person to speak to about the courses as he knows them all inside out.
Director - Will Hayler
Will puts the theory of ‘first up, last down' into good practice. Never one to be outdone on energy levels he will be bouncing up and down at the lifts before they've opened, and then the last person dragged down off the mountains still rearing to go.
He's been bought up with the ski industry all around him with his family running a successful ski retail company. Will handles the marketing of Basecamp & Ticket To Ride, and is also an enthusiastic course advisor.
Snow Division Manager – Anna Ross
Anna has been skiing and snowboarding since she was young, including competing while at university and in a few national competitions, mostly against 12 year olds who always won. Her proudest moment was coming 3 rd in the Monoski World Championships in Val D'Isere on her first ski season. She has done 4 seasons in total, including two in her favourite resort of Meribel.
In the office, Anna makes sure the courses run smoothly, being a link between Head Office and each resort, and loves a good spreadsheet to keep things in order. She has been to each of the countries we operate in, so is a great person to speak to about the courses we run.
Snowsports Course Advisor – Katie Mousley
Katie first met the company back in 2010 when she booked onto a surf instructor course in South Africa with our sister company Ticket to Ride. Her love of travel and adventure sports led her to a ski season in the 3 Valleys, repping the company at industry fairs and then working down in our UK surf schools throughout the summer whilst at university. She then worked for us in Meribel as assistant resort manager and now is based full time in our Head Office selling both ski and surf trips.
If you have any questions about our trips Katie is your girl! She has the invaluable experience of being on our trips as a customer and has also travelled and worked in the resorts we are based in so can pretty much answer any question you throw at her. And more than anything she loves to chat!
Business Manager – Jasmin Othman
Jasmin is the glue that holds the company together! Along with her trusty companion and office morale booster, Rita the lakeland terrier, they make sure everything gets done with a calm efficiency. Jasmin was new to skiing when she joined Basecamp in 2014 but has thrown herself into it with the same enthusiasm she applies to filing and organising the paperwork for our instructor courses. Jasmin generally knows all that is going on on each course so feel free to ask her anything post-booking if you have any questions, or need help with payment or extras for your trip.
Finance Manager – Ben Bryon-Edmond
Local Devon boy Ben manages the money for Basecamp and makes sure we can keep running our quality courses. Ben joined the team a few months ago after being the accounts manager for a local pasty company. Like a lot of the office, Ben has also done a ski season in Meribel and loves skiing and surfing whenever he gets the chance. He is also a keen rower and competes regularly in regattas and competitions nationwide. His goal is to compete in the Henley Regatta this year.
Resort Staff - Meribel, France
Resort Manager – Joe Snowdon
Joe is returning for his third season with Basecamp as the Head of our operations in Meribel. He brings efficient management of the chalets and staff along with incredible knowledge of the resort built up over the past few years of spending both summer and winters in the Valley. With his passion for ski touring, he has been to the far corners of the Three Valleys ski area.
Lodge Manager – Gwil Thomas
Gwil is joining us in Meribel this year after being our Val D'Isere Resort Manager for the past few winters. An awesome snowboarder, he is undertaking management of our exciting new project for this winter, the Ticket To Ride Mountain Lodge [link] in Mottaret. He is also a trip leader for our surf trips in Indo and the Philippines over the summer, as an equally good surfer as snowboarder. After a day's riding you can come back to the cosy social areas in the Lodge and talk to him about snowboarding, surfing, travelling and living the good life!
Director of BASS Ski School & BASI trainer - Steve Ricketts
Steve has been a ski instructor for 25 years and has worked all around the world. He loves the way of life in the mountains and is more passionate about training others to become ski instructors than anyone else.
Steve has been an Alpine Trainer for BASI for more than 10 years and has a great record of successfully training Basecamp students through BASI system.
Director of BASS Meribel - Craig Conkie
Craig has worked as a Level 4 ISTD ski instructor in Meribel since 2005 and is now a BASI trainer and examiner, so really knows his stuff when he teaches on our course. He has been training Basecampers since 2006, and has an incredible pass rate ratio. He loves skiing bumps, and good luck trying to get that karaoke microphone off him when he's in full swing.
BASI Ski Trainer - Martin Jeffers
Martin is another long-term member of the Meribel crew, having taught on our programme there for years. He can often be found in Ronnie's after a long days training and is always there if you need extra guidance or have any questions.
Snowboard Trainer with RTM - Rob Sanderson
Rob was the 3rd person ever to qualify as both the highest level of BASI snowboard and ski instructor and is still just one of only a handful of teachers ever to have done this. He was part of the group that co-wrote the first ever BASI snowboard instructor manual and has been an examiner for BASI since 1997.
He’s been working in the 3 Valleys since 1999, so if you are looking for the quiet slopes, best conditions or just getting away from the crowds he knows where to take you.
Snowboard Trainer with RTM - Kev Edwards
Kev started snowboarding back in the mid-nineties, his passion was born from magazines in his local shop and the snowboard movie Odd Man Out. He has been teaching snowboarding for well over a decade and now loves training others to do the same.
He holds his Level 4 ISTD qualification and is a BASI examiner and trainer. He is also a qualified freestyle coach and off-piste guide.
Resort Staff – Banff, Canada
Resort Manager – Andrew Manuel
Our resident Canadian has been working as a snowboard instructor for the Lake Louise Ski School in Banff since 2006. Since then he has climbed the ranks to become one of their instructor trainers, joining the Basecamp team in 2012 and stacking up his list of qualifications. He has achieved his CASI level 3 and is an Examiner for the CASI Level 1, 2 and Park courses. He is also a performance coach for young up and coming freestyle athletes and was awarded the CASI Regional Evaluator of the Year in 2016.
Andrew has been doing back to back winters in the southern hemisphere and is currently the head coach for the Mt. Ruapehu snowboard program in New Zealand, along with being our New Zealand resort manager as well.
An awesome snowboarder with a huge passion and energy for the sport, Andrew also regularly enters competitions and is the first one up and going on a powder day. There is no one better suited to be running the Basecamp operations in Banff, making sure that everyone has the time of their lives.
