End of Season Party coming soon!

Base Camp Team

Base Camp – meet the team

Handpicked for our experience, enthusiasm and total passion for our adventure sport courses – we’re here to make every step of your trip exciting, fulfilling and great fun.

Between us, we’ve not only clocked up an unfeasible amount of hours on the slopes, on the water and in the wind, but we also have many professional qualifications and sporting achievements under our collective belt.

Add to that our strong business skills and absolute commitment to the highest possible standards of customer service, care and safety, and you’ll begin to get a picture of what the Base Camp philosophy all about.

From helping you to book an amazing gap year snowboarding or taking a ski instructor course, to arranging safe, yet incredible school ski trips, at Base Camp, we put our heart and soul into giving you the time of your life.

Please do not hesitate to give us a call for any question or enquiry you would have. The Team will be happy to answer you.

UK Office

Fergie Miller, Director

fm.jpeg Fergie’s enthusiasm for the slopes was apparent at the tender age of two, when he learned to ski whilst living in Japan. A few years on, he competed in the Junior British Championships. Spending his ski seasons in Europe and North America, Fergie soon became a qualified ski instructor in both the Canadian and British systems.

With over 10 years in the sports industry behind him (including a stint at IMG, the world’s largest sports marketing and management company), and despite spending more time in the office than he would like, Fergie is still well known for never missing a powder day while in resort.

Alex Berman, Sales & Operations

alex2.jpg While studying Geology in the Alps at Oxford Brookes University, Alex decided that instead of looking at the rocks, riding down them would be far more fun. Although Alex’s passion for riding started comparatively late in life, at the grand old age of 19, he’s more than made up for it since.

He’s spent two years working at Skibound, Firstchoice/TUI’s specialist school travel arm, where he managed and operated countless school trips and other tours. With a clear taste for adventure, Alex is also a devoted water sports enthusiast, so as well as a wealth of practical knowledge, he also brings considerable operational experience and an exceptional customer service ethos to Base Camp.

Philly Gammell, Magazine

culdunant00190_rt8.jpg Growing up in La Plagne and training with the local Club des Sports throughout her childhood, there’s no doubt that snowsports are in Philly’s blood. She raced in the British and Scottish Championships during her studies, and once she graduated, Philly trained to become an instructor with the ESF, prior to joining the Base Camp team.

Passionate about people and the natural environment, Philly is a freelance photographer, who, for the last two years, has also been a sponsored rider for Volkl and Marker. Despite injuries, Philly made the remarkable achievement of coming 2nd in the first ever Female British Half Pipe Championships in 2005, and hopes to soon compete at World Cup level.

Jayney Colquhoun, Human Resources

j1_copy.jpg Renowned for her friendly and efficient manner, Jayney brings a wealth of organisational and administrative skills to Base Camp. With a background in managing European hotels, Jayney’s also completed several ski seasons.

As well as having the talent to spot and recruit the most talented staff to work at Base Camp, Janey is also always available on the phone to help you with any queries you have. Completing her Masters with a dissertation entitled ‘Nomadic Lifestyles of Seasonaires’ – you could say she’s the ideal person to ask.

Guillaume Merchant, European Operations Manager

gm1.jpg It has to be said that Guillaume likes to run a tight ship. Monsieur Marchant is a formidable character – always on time and never without a good England/France joke.

As well as experience working for several tourist boards, Guillaume has also spent time with UCPA, France's largest holiday operator. He is fluent in German, Italian and English, as well as his native French, and his comical honesty provides plenty of laughs along the way.

Winter Resort Managers 07/08

Rachel Bradley, Val d'Isere

rachel.jpg A fairly recent recruit to the team, Rachel joined Base Camp following a 10 year advertising career in London. In between, she’s been lucky enough to spend her summer in Europe, mountain biking, windsurfing and perfecting her French!

Rachel’s skied many resorts in Austria and France, but for her, none compare to Val D’Isere. She’s very excited about managing the Base Camp programme in Val this ski season, and can’t wait to welcome you to this stunning resort.

Badge, Meribel

recording_badger.jpg An honorary Meribel local, Badge knows the resort inside-out having spent over five winters as an instructor there. He’s also an inspiration to us all, with an impressive 10 seasons in total behind him – a fabulous example of someone who’s followed their dreams to lead their perfect lifestyle.

Badge is a highly experienced BASI Instructor with an enormous sense of fun, and he can’t wait to use his local knowledge – both on and off the slopes – to show Base Camp clients an incredible time in Meribel this season.

Anna Stevens, Banff

anna.jpg Originating from Jersey, Anna has made her home in Banff. A highly respected teacher at Lake Louise Ski School, Anna is as much a pro in the deep powder as she is on the Wiwaxy – always giving guys a run for their money.

Anna is an exceptional organiser, constantly arranging activities, making new bookings and keeping everything under control (as well as arranging the odd party). Rarely a day goes by where we don’t wonder what we’d do without her – a first-class resort manager who can’t wait to welcome new Base Camp clients to Banff this season.

Henry Boddington, Whistler

henry.jpg Always up for a new adventure, Henry left his Sales and Marketing career in the UK for a more international lifestyle. He’s lived in South East Asia, Sydney, Norway and spent a season in France running a chalet last winter.

When he can tear himself away from the slopes, Henry can often be found below the surface as he’s a very keen scuba diver. With exceptional operational skills and a natural flair for looking after clients, Henry’s eagerly anticipating yet another fantastic ski season.
