Quote of the Week

'‘There’s no friends in powder’ as the whole week was a blur of powder slashes with people hurtling off as hard and fast as they could to rip some great lines through the best snow of the season.'

Why train with Base Camp?hawaii-surfing.jpg

Choosing an adventure sports course with Base Camp is a life-changing decision. Whichever course you select, when you book with us, you have the guarantee that you’ll be taking part in one of the best performance training programmes available.

With highly qualified, specialist instructors enlisted on every course, you’ll receive the ultimate training experience. You’ll notice a dramatic improvement in your style and technique, and be in the ideal position to transform your performance.

Including everything from technical skills and style to understanding tide conditions, wave formations and beach safety – your course offers a full and varied programme that’s designed to increase your skill base to the maximum.

You’ll train in a small group, giving you extensive opportunities for one on one sessions with your instructor. Watching your progress on video and taking part in individual formal feedback discussions with your instructor will help you to track your progress and identify areas for you to focus on.

And while the training aspect of your course is crucial, we’re also about having a lot of fun too – both during and after training. Enjoy taking part in our exciting trips and activities, then recharge your batteries in your clean, comfortable and central accommodation, and once your energy’s back – venture out into the resort for some serious partying

Length: 1 week

Start date: May, June and September

Location: Cornwall, UK

• Ideal for beginners and intermediate level surfers

• Master the basics and see your surfing transform

The course

Whatever your level of experience, by joining a Base Camp surfing Performance Camp, you’re guaranteed to transform your riding skills.

We only work with the top surfing instructors, so whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, you’ll benefit from some of the best coaching available. And as we always make sure there are plenty of instructors on hand – you’ll benefit from individual coaching within a group environment.

If you’re new to the sport, your instructor will begin by introducing you to the equipment and showing you how to catch and ride a wave – whilst understanding the importance of safety and how to be aware of your surroundings. For intermediate surfers, your instructor will analyse your style, technique and wave selection – and take things from there.

Mastering new skills or refining your existing ones gives you the ideal platform to quickly and dramatically improve your surfing. And, after a hard day on the water, what better way to end the day than by checking out the local social scene?

Useful information: All equipment is included.

Prerequisites: None.

Post course: Get kitted up and ride those waves.

Instructor Course

harlynsurf128.jpgLength: 5 weeks

Start Date: September

Location: Harlyn Bay, Cornwall, UK

The Course

This 4 - 6 week course combines serious professional training on beaches in Cornwall with exciting excursions to different surf locations to give you valuable experience. At the end of this course you will gain Surf Instructor and Beach Lifeguard qualifications which will enable you to work on any beach throughout the world. The culmination of the trip will be a week long trip to a European surf camp.

During the course you will receive supervised hands on surf coaching experience working with one of Europe’s most dynamic surf instructor teams. These sessions will provide you with an opportunity to put into practice all of the skills you have learnt in the classroom and will help prepare you for your instructor assessment. Coaches will use video analysis for in depth reviews, and you’ll be able to use a variety of demo and test boards, with the option of getting your own customised board made at special exclusive rates for the group.

godrevy01.jpgThis programme is quite physically demanding, with fitness training geared to getting you through your NARS Beach Lifeguard Course, which will include rescue techniques and first aid training. Remember that surfing itself is an excellent form of exercise, and that you’ll be spending hours in the surf every day.

Workshops, day trips and community service are all parts of the course – you’ll learn about the anatomy, sizing and source of a wave, board repair and maintenance and beach safety. You’ll help the local community by teaching surfing to local schools as training and helping with community beach cleans, and you’ll surf a variety of local spots other than Harlyn including Fistral, Polzeath and Croyde.

If all this wasn’t enough, in your last week you will take advantage of the time of year and travel either to France or Northern Spain to surf some epic breaks, staying in fully catered, ideally located accommodation.

Prerequisites: The course would suit anyone fit, energetic and up for a challenge. We ask that you already have some basic surfing skills under your belt and be able to paddle out in 2 – 3ft surf conditions.

Post Course: With your newly acquired qualifications you will be able to work as an instructor or beach lifeguard on a beach anywhere in the world
