Base Camp - giving something back
Building Partnerships
At Base Camp, we’re very fortunate to spend our lives working and playing at the sports we love.
We know that we wouldn’t be living the lives we lead, doing what we love every day, if it wasn’t for the help and guidance we’ve received in the past. And so, at Base Camp, we believe in doing all that we can to provide a helping hand to create opportunities for more people to share in the enjoyment of these life-changing sports.
By sponsoring organisations we’ve specially selected, we hope that we can give others a chance to realise their passions too. We work very closely with these organisations, taking an active interest in their development, and we’re able to offer much more than just finance. We use our knowledge and expertise to support groups from grass roots right through to major international competition level.
The Ghana Ski Team, the British Schoolboys and the British Schoolgirls Races, and the Snowboard Club UK are four such organisations which we’re very proud to be partners with.
Ghana Ski Team
A chance meeting at the 2004 London Ski Show led us, that year, to become the first sponsors of the Ghana Ski Team.
Aiming to become the first person to represent his county in skiing, Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong was hoping to reach the winter Olympics just 16 months later. Even with no money, no equipment and no experience on real snow – just “a few indoor races at Milton Keynes” – Kwame was determined to make his country proud.
Time was too tight for Kwame to make the 2006 Olympics in Turin. But, with his sights set firmly on the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere and the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, he’s single handedly built a Ghana Ski Team, a Ghana Winter Olympics Association and staged events in both the UK and Ghana to raise the profile of Ghanaian skiing. No mean feat whilst competing regularly in international downhill events.
Kwame’s level of dedication to skiing and snowboarding helps people who wouldn’t have had the chance otherwise to experience these incredible sports. It’s an honour for Base Camp to help Kwame with this project, he’s inspired us all, and we hope that through financial, logistical and training support we can continue to make his dreams a reality.

British Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Races
Starting skiing and snowboarding at an early age is ideal for building the skills and confidence needed to participate throughout life. It’s also a fun and rewarding interest that allows children to keep fit and healthy in an enriching competitive environment.
By investing in the British Schoolboys and Schoolgirls races, we’re aiming to raise the profile of skiing and snowboarding amongst the UK’s school children. Our sponsorship helps to fund a competitive platform for these sports, making it possible for children to compete against the best in the UK, and to showcase their skills to the powers that be in British snowsports.
There’s no doubt that the young athletes we see represent some of the most gifted athletes of their generation. So, with a structure in place that helps their development, these children have a very real chance of representing Britain in the future.

Snowboard Club UK

The SCUK represent UK snowboarders on many levels, including at Snowsport GB – the official national governing body for snowsports. It also supports people doing their bit for UK snowboarding – building parks, managing shops, slopes, chalets and brands or coaching.
As a partner of SCUK we not only offer member discounts to courses and accommodation, but we hope we’re contributing in our own small way to the growth and development of snowboarding in the UK, and that’s despite us having very little snow.
