Independent Schools Ski & Snowboard Championships (ISSSC)

web-championship-poster-small.jpgThe annual ISSSC takes place annually at Les Deux Alpes’ World Cup pistes, and are hosted by Base camp.

The event showcases the best skiing and snowboarding talent from British schools across all levels, catering for competitive racers and conventional holiday skiers alike, and offering a once in a lifetime educational trip.

The Championships are held over a long weekend before Christmas, with the first two days devoted to a mix of intensive coaching and a variety of games and exercises, culminating in the exciting team Parallel Slalom event.

The evenings are just as much fun as the days, with entertainment laid on in the form of activities and workshops taking place every night.

The final two days host both the individual and team Slalom and Giant Slalom races, building up to the much anticipated freestyle competition and the eagerly awaited Gala Dinner and prize giving ceremony.

Creating the ideal ski programme for your pupils

jan3564.jpg

As most of us at Base Camp began learning our sports from a very young age, we appreciate the importance of sport at school.

The right training given to pupils at the right stage in their development is crucial to help them to achieve long-term success and enjoyment from sport – hopefully to last a lifetime.

As a small company specialising in school ski trips, we’re able to offer each school we work with a highly individual and specific service.

Having delivered many successful school ski trips over the years, we’re confident that our standard of personal service and quality of programmes are of the very best available.

Meeting your every need

Client satisfaction is very important to us, so our school programmes have developed from working proactively with schools and acting on their feedback.

This has helped us to have a clear understanding of how to balance the unique demands placed on teachers with creating a fun and educational programme to exceed the expectations of both teachers and pupils.

Our resident expert, Alex, has organised over 300 school trips and is based in the UK to liaise closely with you as you plan your trip.

Alex will also arrange for a member of the Base Camp team to visit your school and present the Base Camp experience – using videos, pictures and posters to give your teachers and pupils a flavour of what they can expect on their trip, plus answer any questions.

We’re committed to making your trip fun, safe and stress-free, so we take the time to prepare everything thoroughly in advance.

And once you’re away, you’ll have a dedicated and highly-experienced Base Camp representative on hand to help co-ordinate your group and oversee every activity.

We’ll take care of everything

apr0198.jpgJust because you’re the teacher doesn’t mean that shouldn’t relax and have a great time yourself!

We aim to take all the pressure off you by providing plenty of pre-trip information and promotional material, plus a simple booking process to help you to collect payments quickly and efficiently.

Whilst you’re away, our friendly and highly-experienced resort representatives will make you and your pupils feel completely at home.

They’ll oversee everything – from the ski programme, to food, accommodation and all après ski activities.

And, with their extensive knowledge of the resort and of the local area, all your questions will be answered and you’ll get a real flavour of the local environment.

Taking safety seriously

Health and safety is our top priority and something we take very seriously.

Every aspect of our school ski trips has been developed to provide a safe, yet fun environment – totally overseen by our expert coaches and resident resort representatives.

The Base Camp Safety Management System, developed in conjunction with leading school specialists Veale Wasborough Lawyers, is in place to provide a structured framework for safety.

Running alongside this are our Risk Assessment templates and comprehensive advice that’s always available to all teachers taking part.

An exceptional, individual skiing programme

Your school ski trip will centre on our Ski & Snowboard Programme.

This is part of our brand new philosophy, unique to Base Camp, which gives each school taking part their own, individually designed programme.

Making sure that every pupil taking part has the very best opportunity to develop their skiing or snowboarding to the next level, the Ski & Snowboard Programme combines training with fun events such as treasure hunts and dual slalom competitions.

Every lesson is designed to be fun and exciting for everyone, so the Programme includes a mix of games, exercises, technical sessions and competitions and the opportunity for every student to be challenged mentally and physically, within their own capabilities.

Time to relax

championships-096.jpgHaving the right accommodation is crucial on a school trip, so we only choose hotels that are cosy, comfortable and close to the slopes.

We also demand that our hotels offer welcoming areas to relax after a day’s skiing, plus simple, delicious home-cooked food.

It’s very important to us that pupils are relaxed and happy whilst they’re away, so we work closely with teachers to make sure that everyone’s allocated a bed in a room with their friends.

We also ensure that any special requests – dietary or otherwise – are fully catered for.
