Fly when it suits you with Base Camp
Want to fly early or late? It’s up to you
As you’re booking through Base Camp, we know that you like the flexibility to do things your way. That’s why we don’t include flights within our programmes, as we’re confident that you’d be happier organising travel arrangements that suit you.
You can either get in touch or use the Travel Information area in the Support menu to find loads of useful local advice for when you start your trip. We’re also here to help if you want to stay in resort either side of your course and make the most of your ski past. Just call our UK office on +44 20 7243 6222 or use the search box to see what’s available.
Below we’ve put together details of all the cheapest and most convenient flight partners to help you on your way. Happy travels!
Booking Flights
Base Camp have recently struck up a new partnership with Longreach Travel, specialists in Gap Year or Career Break travel arrangements. Although you are under no obligation to use them, our partners at Longreach with contact you upon booking, detailing their best flights to suit you. Alternatively you can contact them directly on +44 1932 753 418 or fares@longreachtravel.co.uk.
Base Camp allows its clients the flexibility of booking their own flights for a course, allowing you to fly from airports of your choice, at times that are convenient and with budgets that suit you. Many of our courses rely on a minimum number of bookings before we can confirm the course is running.
It’s extremely unlikely that once you’ve booked a course it won’t run, however as a precaution we will generally issue definite course confirmations 2 – 3 months before the start date of a course. With this in mind we kindly ask you to abstain from purchasing flights until we contact you to confirm the course will run.
Europe
Most major scheduled airlines and low cost carriers fly from most major British hubs (London, Manchester and Edinburgh) to the French Alps airports, including Grenoble, Geneva, Lyon and Chambery during the winter months.
Nearly all low cost airlines now charge for all checked-in baggage. It's often much cheaper to book it online with your ticket. If you forget, you're likely to pay double at the check in desk.
All scheduled airlines allow for one free check-in bag. Ski carriage is charged on all low cost airlines but you're allowed one piece of sports equipment on a scheduled airline. Boots and a ski bag are considered two separate items, so try and get your boots in your luggage bag.
Our winter trips always transfer from Geneva. Once your booking is confirmed and you’ve logged onto your Base Camp intranet account, you’ll be advised of final times for your departure.
If you book onto either our Skydiving or Paramotoring courses, you will be flying to Spain: either Seville, Malaga, Faro, Jerez or Girona.
For windsurfing, kitesurfing and diving in Dahab your nearest airport is Sharm El Sheikh. By far the cheapest carrier will be Easyjet if you get in quick, but don't worry If you're too late to buy their cheap seats, there are numerous other airlines that operate routes, so if you look around you'll be sure to pick up a deal. It's also worth checking out the big tour operators like FirstChoice that fly charter planes regularly during the summer months.
Easyjet - The best of the low cost carriers. Easyjet flies to Geneva from all major UK hubs (excl Heathrow) and a host of regional airports. For more info or to book tickets go to: www.easyjet.com.
Ryanair - Doesn't fly to Geneva (all Base Camp transfers go to and from Geneva), but flies into Grenoble from a host of airports, which could be an option if you've booked seasonal accommodation or are going to resort early. Girona, for Paramotoring, is a Ryanair hub, and is serviced from a variety of different locations in the UK. Seville, for skydiving, is also serviced by Ryanair and is only 20 minutes from the Dropzone. www.ryanair.com
BA - Flies to Geneva from Heathrow, among others. www.ba.com

Other deals
It might also be worth trying other travel agencies both on and offline for a competitive deal. These may well require a stop off in the States, but this is quite common for flights to Western Canada.
The best flight comparison site on the internet is www.kayay.co.uk and should enable you to find the best flight for your requirements.
